When art in all its forms and modernism meet... This is what the Centre Pompidou is proposing with a retrospective devoted to theU. A. M., the Union de Artistes Modernes, one of the most important currents in the history of art in the last century. Architects, painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelry, furniture and fabric designers, graphic artists and poster artists... The avant-garde of modernism is exhibited here with the aim of restoring a somewhat lost image, since the association created in 1929 was dissolved in 1958.
Bringing together 170 members, including Henri Laurens, René Herbst, Louis Sognot, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Jean Prouvé, Eileen Gray, Pierre Chareau and, most famously, Le Corbusier, the association set itself the task of permanently experimenting with forms, technologies, materials and colors in artists' creations.
The exhibition at the Centre Pompidou presents " a survey of the entire French modern movement, from the beginning of the 20th century to the end of the 1950s ". An image of French modernism brought up to date by the exhibition.
