The Second World War seen in a different light... That's what the Musée de l'Armée is offering with the exhibition Une vie d'engagement: les compagnons de la Libération dans la Grande Guerre, which runs from January 30 to April1, 2018. An exhibition produced by the Musée de l'Armée and the Musée de l'Ordre de la Libération as part of the centenary of the Great War, and which, as its name suggests, immerses visitors in the companions of the Liberation.
These people, " from a wide range of social, geographical, religious and generational backgrounds ", found themselves in a shared struggle and shared values between 1940 and 1945, and their stories are presented here. The exhibition also aims to show that a " significant number " of companions " experienced fire " during the First World War.
Of the 1,038 Compagnons de la Libération, 120 followed this path, going on to take up arms and join the Resistance, whether in the ranks of Free France or in " the hard fighting of the underground ". A lifetime of commitment to freedom.
