The Musée de l'Armée presents a new exhibition inviting the public to slip into the shoes of a soldier, and share their daily lives through the presentation of scenes from everyday life.
This exhibition, on view from October 12, 2017 to January 28, 2018, brings together over 330 objects and documents recounting soldiers' daily lives, specific to each era and civilization.
At the Musée de l'Armée, located in a wing of the Hôtel des Invalides (a hospital built by Louis XIV for the war-disabled), we study clothing, tents, mess tins, food rations, medicines, various tools... designed for particular theaters of operation and climates (urban environments, deserts, tropical countries, mountainous areas) having belonged to soldiers of all eras.
Without too much shock, we learn that whatever the era, whatever the war, a soldier needs to eat, sleep, train and keep in touch with loved ones. While soldiers' armor and weapons have evolved over time, the show's most important exhibit reveals that the siding has always remained the same. In fact, 24 mannequins, from the Roman soldier to the soldier of the future, accompanied by the animals and vehicles in which they travel or transport their equipment, take their place in a gallery for a beautiful and highly educational presentation of historical evolution.
For children, there are playful guided tours to discover the life of combatants during military campaigns, as well as clothing, equipment and weaponry from Antiquity to the present day.
