The “Un T-REX à Paris” [A T-REX in Paris] exhibition is one of the most awaited exhibitions in Paris in 2018. Yes, Paris is welcoming a spectacular and very rare complete Tyrannosaurus rex specimen, discovered in Montana, USA in 2013, a 67-million-year old female skeleton named Trix.
Discovered in the United States in 2013 by a Leiden Naturalis Biodiversity Center (The Netherlands), Trix is an exception, impressive, with her 75% complete skeleton, measuring 41ft long and 13ft high. In the majestic geology and mineralogy gallery, the beast is ready to surprise everyone!
For an exhibition entirely dedicated to it, the Museum goes back in time and offers us to dive into the Cretaceous to discover one of its most breathtaking representative ever preserved. T-Rex arrives in Paris then, in June for three months, to be discovered in an impressive and immersive staging.
Alongside Trix, fossils are exhibited to put Trix back to her historical context, explain her way of life and how she disappeared. By the way, a fossilized Hadrosaurid skeleton – an herbivore dinosaur measuring 32ft long, was T.Rex’s main prey, is displayed within the Museum’s collections for over a century and will be assembled for the first time at the Jardin des Plantes…
This exhibition, set in a low crowded gallery of the museum, is a wonderful way to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Paleontology gallery. Indeed, the Paleontology gallery opened back in 1898 as part of the 1900 World’s Fair, gathering in one place the skeletons of many animals – many of them disappeared – an impressive 540-million years trip made possible thanks to archeologists and researchers like Cuvier.
With this exhibition, the museum takes the tradition of compelling and spectacular exhibitions up again. And exhibitions conveying a scientific message while amazing us, we love it!
Let's meet Trix the T-Rex, shall we?
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
