Just under a year ago, the Musée Maillol opened its retrospective exhibition devoted to the artist Tsugouharu Foujita (1886-1968). The exhibition (re)discovered this French painter, draughtsman and engraver of Japanese origin, who spent the best years of his life in France, a country he adored and where he frequented the avant-garde.
This time, it's the Maison de la Culture du Japon 's turn to honor Foujita, an artist of great aesthetic richness. The idea behind the exhibition? To retrace the painter's entire career, from his arrival in Paris in 1913 to his death in 1968. Some forty paintings are on display. It's worth noting that most of them come from Japan, and are being shown in Paris for the very first time!
The exhibition is divided into five distinct sections: Parisian beginnings, The 1920s success story in Paris, Travels in Latin America and Japan, Facing war and Final return to Paris. These unfold a chronological journey through Foujita's life.
More intimate and extremely meticulous, this new exhibition is the perfect complement to the major retrospective already seen (or missed!) last year. A must-see!
