Those who loveaccessible art will appreciate Galerie Champop, this gallery dedicated to street art located near Merci and the Musée Picasso.
Opened in autumn 2018 by a couple with a passion for art, Galerie Champop aims to make art galleries accessible with a relaxed New York loft style where you can enjoy a drink at the Champagne bar (from 10 to 15 euros a glass).
The Valès couple, who own the place, support (young) Pop Art and Street Art artists such as Mister Luca T, Dillon Boy and Denis Ouch, who are real favorites. They happily introduce us to each artist in conversation, and explain how they discovered some of them on the streets, like Denis Ouch, whom they met in New York, and became close friends.
Alongside these artists are the greats Andy Warhol, Banksy, Alec Monopoly, Mr Brainwash, Bambi, Vincent Duchene, C215 and Robert Indiana, whom the couple acquired a few years ago.
While one might think that this gallery is a pretty place reserved for the elite, the Valès couple prove us wrong, with original works selling for as little as 150 euros, "a proposition made to young artists who immediately played the game". Admittedly, these are mostly small pieces, but they do brighten up a room and make a great first purchase!
So what are you waiting for?
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
