From February 21, 2020 to May 17, 2020 the Palais de Tokyo presents – in partnership with the MATHAF (aka the Modern Art Arab Museum) – the “Our world is burning” exhibition. A committed contemporary art exhibition returning on works by artists from Qatar and the Gulf region on a daily basis, excluding Tuesdays from noon to midnight.
“Our World is Burning” presents contemporary creation through the geo-political situation of the Arabian Gulf, a world region where issues are marked by men and arts.
From the destruction of Iraqi treasure to the fate of Syrian refugees via financing of Taliban members through the exploitation of lapis lazuli in Afghanistan, the exhibition presents these tragedies inspiring creations by artists from Qatar and the Arabian Gulf such as Iraqi-American artist Michael Rakowitz, Lebanon drawer Monira Al Solh or even Turkish Asli Cavusoglu.
By the way, the exhibition is also about the current tragic events: the ecological crisis and the environmental disasters such as the huge and destructive fires from Amazonia to Siberia via California and Australia.
This committed exhibition happens as part of the French-Qatar cultural year launched in 2020 by Qatar Museums. Every year, a different country is given pride of place with several cultural events promoting both cultures in France and Qatar.
