From September 28, 2021 to January 16, 2022, the Musée du Quai Branly invites you to discover their latest exhibition, “Ultimate Combat. Asian Martial Arts”. An exhibition held as part of Paris 2024 cultural Olympiads.

A genuine immersion into Asian martial arts… this is what the musée du Quai Branly offers with their latest exhibition, “Ultimate Combat. Asian Martial Arts”, running from September 28, 2021 to January 16, 2022. An exhibition giving pride of place to the many martial arts found on the Asian continent, as much as in practice as in media or cinema: Shaolin monks, samurais, kung fu and sword fighting films… As many supports as seen in a magnifying glass.

In all, over 300 works of art, ancient and contemporary, through a gallery of historic characters and fictional heroes are seen in order to answer one question: the origins and special features of martial arts in Asia. The tour is also paced with references to popular arts and cultures, especially through Bruce Lee.

Let us start with the picture of martial arts as a symbol of power amid military elites, and as a metaphor for the liberation of knowledge. The exhibition then focuses on the very core of martial art schools in Asia, being part of a very old system to represent the body, nature and the world. Please note that to keep visitors safe, the museum instates a fitted protocol, with the compulsory booking of a visit timeslot. Facemask-wearing and a valid health pass are also mandatory.
