This winter, theEspace Richaud in Versailles is transformed into a shrine to Japanese pop culture with the exhibition Jouets Robots: Émergence d'une culture japonaise, from December 23, 2023 to February 25, 2024. This unique event offers a fascinating immersion into the world of Japanese robots, a captivating subject for Asian culture buffs and retro toy enthusiasts alike.
The exhibition features an impressive collection of 300 pieces from the Japanese popular imagination. These works, belonging to collector Baptiste Caillaud, include legendary toys and emblematic manga figures transformed into super robots, such as creations by Bandai, Popy and Nakajima. Several of these pieces have already been exhibited at the Musée du Quai Branly during the exhibition Ultime combat. Asian Martial Arts in 2021.
Beyond their playfulness, these toy robots testify to the significant impact of Japanese culture in Europe, particularly during the 70s, 80s and 90s. This period saw the advent of cult figures such as Goldorak, Power Rangers, Gundam and Transformers, who continue to influence and inspire younger generations. An opportunity to discover the richness of Japanese culture, from its boundless creativity to its impressive technological know-how. An unmissable event for all lovers of culture from the Land of the Rising Sun!
