From May 18 to August 29, 2022, come and visit Simon Hantaï, The Centenary Exhibition and meet this uncommon artist.

The Louis Vuitton Foundation offers us to discover an artist and his works through a compelling and exceptional exhibition. An often little-known artist whose work keeps on fascinating and influencing young creators. To pay tribute to the painter – whose hundredth birthday is celebrated this year – the Foundation is throwing a huge retrospective covering a 2,700sqm surface.

Simon Hantaï, The Centenary Exhibition – running from May 18 to August 29, 2022 – gathers about 150 pieces covering the artist’s career from 1957 to 2004. About half of these were never displayed to the public before: this is a real chance to discover exclusive paintings and creations!

Coming from Hungary, Simon Hantaï settled in France in 1948 and was quickly spotted by a certain André Breton. His surrealist universe, his original works and crazy work pace made of him a figurehead, given lots of awards and prizes.

His unique works attract crowds and inspire his fellow artists. He is especially famous for the “Ecriture Rose” painting and painting techniques leading to colorful works easily recognizable.

The Louis Vuitton Foundation exhibition also shines a light on core collections including several iconic creations from his debuts. His different eras are presented in turns by works coming from the Peintures à signes, Monochromes, Blancs, Tabulas, Peintures polychromes, Sérigraphies collections.

The retrospective also allows to assess the importance of this artist and his growing influence in the world of art. Simon Hantaï was inspired and fed with works by Henri Matisse, Jackson Pollock, Michel Parmentier or Daniel Buren. To pay tribute to his friend, Daniel Buren came up with a monumental installation called Mur(s) you can discover in the exhibition.

Come and discover this exceptional exhibition because of its size and works displayed, enjoy the beauty and poetry of Simon Hantaï’s work. And do not miss the other Louis Vuitton Foundation exhibition: Fugues in Color.
