It is said that travel is a way of life, but is it also an indispensable element of our happiness? To answer this question, 32 artists from all over the world give us their thoughts on travel, its stakes, its constraints, its benefits but also its price...
Through some fifty works, brought together at theEDF Foundation for the exhibition Do you have to travel to be happy? we travel to the four corners of the world, taking a fresh look at this unique experience. From May 20, 2022 to April 2, 2023, we can admire installations, paintings, videos and photographs by great contemporary artists such as Martin Parr, David Ancelin, Nathalie Talec, Santiago Sierra, Bouchra Khalili, Mike Brodie...
Ecological issues, Covid-19, exile, migrations, economic issues, but also pleasure of discovery, change of scenery, exchange of cultures, emotions, rest... Travel can be seen from many angles, from the most flattering to the most disturbing. The artists exhibited at the EDF Foundation encourage us to question our practices and motivations. Always synonymous with pleasure and accomplishment, travel acquires a new definition here, in line with the major issues of our time.
We admire in this course different works and symbols that represent the journey: postcard, suitcase, airport, monuments, tourist beaches, meetings, montages ... Each piece illustrates a way of traveling. If this exhibition warns us against the excesses generated by certain practices, it is not moralizing: on the contrary, it is also a love letter written to the planet, its wonders and those who go to discover them.
Several of our senses are put to work in this multi-disciplinary exhibition. Of course, we can admire the many works on display, but we can also hear them, and even smell them! Various video installations punctuate this journey, and we discover with astonishment the work of Julie C. Fortier, a "nose" who has recreated an olfactory journey, based on natural odors, such as rain in the city, morning dew, mist in the countryside ...
And you, what kind of traveler are you? To find out, come to the EDF Foundation!
