Discover this very strange traveling exhibition that has toured the world at the Maillol Museum from September 8, 2022 to March 5, 2023. Expect to be disturbed by this series of hyperrealisticsculptures, in front of which you will feel like losing all notion of reality, and will not fail to feel uncomfortable, like in front of this shaggy girl, who holds in her arms a strange shape, between human and deformed creature.
Hyperrealism is an artistic movement that appeared in the 1960s in the United States, which aims to shake up our vision of art and question us about reality. Artists seek to represent nature in such detail that the public wonders if it is a sculpture or a living being."Ceci n'est pas une pipe", the subtitle of the exhibition, refers to the work of René Magritte, who also proposed a novel experience.
The course of the exhibition brings together nearly 40 sculptures by international artists who play with reality, around the human body, new technologies and deformations, and reveal new techniques. To give theappearance of life is not easy, but one would easily be mistaken in front of these immobile creatures, naked or dressed, sitting, standing or lying down. The features seem so real and are so detailed, between scars, veins and drops of water, that our brain struggles to distinguish the real from the fake. Be careful not to ask a statue for directions!
Surprisingly, a nude visit is offered to visitors who wish,on November 10, 11 and 17, 2022, in collaboration with the French Federation of Naturism.
