Set about fifteen kilometers from Paris, the Maison de Chateaubriand can be visited all year around. In 1807, the writer decided to settle with his wife, Céleste, in this former gardener house set in the heart of the Domaine de la Vallée-aux-Loups. The reason behind such a decision? An article attacking Napoleon that pushed him to get away from the capital city.
Chateaubriand chose to furbish his home himself, adding here and there a few souvenirs and items brought back from his journey, and landscape the park around. It is in this very haven of peace Chateaubriand started to write his “Memoirs from Beyond the Grave”.
The turret house which façades covered by poison ivy are adorned with flowers in spring and keeps on housing literary workshops and exhibitions. And in the surrounding park, perfect for picnics, quiet moment and reading breaks – the trunk of a tree is used as a book box – also hides a romantic and bucolic small tearoom.
This is the occasion to dive into the universe of the famous French writer whilst enjoying the quietness of the location. A haven of peace in the heart of wilderness providing you with a fabulous moment off the grid. Perfect to recharge your batteries!
