The Palais Garnier experienced lots of performances of French playwright Molière’s iconic plays, whose 400th birthday is celebrated this year. On the occasion, the Bibliothèque nationale de France provides an exhibition in the heart of the Opéra de Paris, in the library-museum, where stand majors artworks. Starting from September 27, 2022, and until January 15, 2023, “Molière en musiques” is about the place of music in the artist’s works and the invention of comedy-ballet.
In partnership with the Comédie-Française, the exhibition offers to discover exceptional documents showing the importance of music and dance for Molière, almost half of his plays have some. Furthermore, the playwright actually inspired by the creation of the French opera in 1670’s, with sumptuous interludes. After his death and until today, Molière influenced multiple composers and the exhibition will definitely pay tribute to this incredible posterity.
"Molière en musiques" explores the relationship between composers and choreographers and the comedian’s work, between Lully and Marc-Antoine Charpentier, as well as Rossini, Mozart or even Béjart and Pierre Beauchamps. The tour also stops by the musical alterations around Molière’s plays, especially for the past fifty years where a new lease of life is granted to baroque music that enabled to shine a light on the past genius of the playwright with more fantasy.
