As in previous years, the Maison Jean Cocteau reopens its doors to the public in May, allowing visitors to rediscover the famous French filmmaker and poet, in the heart of the Essonne region, at Milly-la-Forêt . This time, the theme is music, with an exhibition, concerts and numerous events, to be enjoyed until October 29, 2023. It's a plunge into a fantastic, avant-garde universe, strongly inspired by mythology, in a richly decorated house-museum listed as a Monument Historique.
In addition to the garden, orchard and nearly 2-hectare park bordered by canals, visitors can enjoy an outstanding temporary exhibition. Jean Cocteau wrote most of his work in this house, which inspired him as it is laid out like a stage set. Mythological creatures mingle in the different spaces, on the furniture and in the tapestries, with their animal motifs, as in a cabinet of curiosities.
In 2023, the Maison Cocteau celebrates the 60th anniversary of the artist's death, with an original exhibition entitled " Prenez garde à la musique " (Beware of music ), inviting visitors to take a musical journey through the 20th century, focusing on various musical themes ranging from ballet to jazz. From July to early September, a series of six concerts will mark the summer, offering the chance to (re)listen to works that marked Cocteau's life. Recitals, instrumental and vocal pieces by composers who were important to him will be performed in the artist's world.
