The Grand Palais Immersif at Bastille has been hosting one incredible digital exhibition after another. After a visit to Venice, the place proposes a journey through time and the work ofAlfons Mucha, during the Belle Époque. This particularly prolific artist is the representation par excellence of the Art Nouveau movement, notably thanks to his many famous posters. In this immersive exhibition, "Eternal Mucha", the work of this precursor is presented in its entirety, using projection technologies that dazzle all our senses, from March 22 to November 5, 2023.
Organized in three parts with the Mucha Foundation, the poetic and sensitive exhibition delves into the artist's busy life and exceptional history. If the average visitor knows the artist thanks to his superb Parisian posters, a large part of his work consists of a huge frieze representing thehistory of the Slavic people, "The Slavic Epic", created in the last years of his life. This is an opportunity to discover these twenty monumental canvases, whose allegorical figures are explained in detail and in color.
His advertising posters are dissected, from the theater to the cookie boxes, and we linger particularly on his meeting with Sarah Bernhardt, who launched his career in the capital. A total immersion in the originality and elegance of Alfons Mucha's incredible avant-garde work, which makes our sense of smell and hearing work, thanks to original musical creations and a whole olfactory universe. You will be able to smell his workshop and the flowers he liked to include in his creations: white lily, daisy and poppy.
The exhibition also evokes thelegacy and posterity of his work, with the example of manga, street artists, tattooing or the animation series Arcane, inspired by his work. Fans of Alfons Mucha and Art Nouveau will come away from this exhibition with stars in their eyes, amazed by the beauty of the works visible in large format. And you can even take some of his work home with you, as there is a store selling posters of all sizes and many objects featuring Mucha's work. Ready to dive into the past?
In September 2023, the space will host another exhibition, this time about street art and urban art in the digital age.
