Katinka Bock is a German artist, best known for her sculptures. For this new exhibition, the artist reveals a little-known part of her work: discover Katinka Bock's photographs at the Pernod Ricard Foundation, from February 14 to April 29, 2023, through the new exhibition Der Sonnenstich (sunstroke in German, or more literally "sunburn").
For this exhibition, 65 photographs are gathered. These photographs, taken between 2015 and 2022, are mostly in black and white, although a few touches of color sometimes adorn these original prints. These works have - for the most part - never been exhibited to the public: this is therefore an opportunity to discover these exceptional works by thecontemporary artist well known in France.
In sculpture as in photography, Katinka Bock adopts a unique way of working. The artist seeks spontaneity, the living: she wishes to immortalize the beauty of what she sees around her, and not create an ideal from scratch. Thus, these photos are taken on the spot: they capture a moment, a form, an energy which knew how to retain the eye of the artist.
The photographer attaches particular importance to light, hence the reference to "sunburn", a term that greatly inspires the artist, since she also used it in a recently published poem.
To emphasize the novelty of this exhibition and her work, Katinka Bock has created a stunning scenography to showcase her images. The artist presents her photographs on suspended panels built especially for the exhibition: on one side, there are warm and colorful fabrics, on the other, there is a cold and reflective aluminum face.
A free exhibition that should delight photography enthusiasts and lovers of contemporary art!
