Every French person knows about the bloody St. Bartholomew's Day massacre, which marked a peak in the violence of the country's religious wars. This exhibition at the Musée de l'Armée, which takes place in theHôtel des Invalides and its magnificent dome, takes visitors back in time to the Renaissance, which harbors dark secrets and fierce hatreds between politics and religion, from April 5 to July 30, 2023.
The Musée de l'Armée, one of France's most visited historical museums, holds one of the world's richest collections ofmilitary history. In this exhibition, which traces the various religious quarrels and civil unrest in France from 1559 to 1610, pieces of war equipment, armor, portraits, archival documents and old books bring to life the destinies of courtiers and warlords who have marked the history of France, from Condé to De Guise.
This period, particularly troubled, saw eight wars of religion destroy the country and set the kingdom ablaze, between scandals and massacres. An important moment that impacted the destiny of France and other countries, such as Poland or the Netherlands, where the violence was echoed. The exhibition will allow to better understand the highlights, the stakes and the triggers of these hatreds between different clans, which led to such atrocities. Discover a host of beautiful armors, perfectly staged!
