A Dutch painter with a unique and unmistakable style, Vincent Van Gogh was one of the greatest artists of his time. Born on March 30, 1853 and died on July 29, 1890, Van Gogh produced over 2,000 paintings and drawings in his short career. Today, the painter is considered an artistic genius, but in his own lifetime he enjoyed no such reputation: he is the epitome of theaccursed artist.
His tragic fate and the singularity of his work make him a unique and much-admired artist: the Starry Night, his self-portraits and the painting of his bedroom in Arles are known the world over.
If, like us, you love Vincent Van Gogh and his works, and dream of admiring his work, good news! Some of his paintings are on display near you. The vast majority of Van Gogh's works are held in museums in the Netherlands and the United States; however, a few canvases can be found in Paris and the Île-de-France region.
Van Gogh fans, your first stop should be Auvers-sur-Oise, a commune in the Val-d'Oise and the painter's last home. In this town within easy reach of the TER, you can see some of the places emblematic of the artist's paintings and life, such as the famous Auvers-sur-Oise church, the Ravoux inn and the cemetery where he is buried.

The museum, dedicated to the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, owns and exhibits over twenty paintings by Vincent Van Gogh, including Van Gogh's Room in Arles, The Italian Woman, Portrait of Doctor Gachet, The Dance Hall in Arles, The Church at Auvers-sur-Oise, Portrait of the Artist, Portrait of Eugène Boch, L'Arlésienne, The Starry Night, The Meridian (also known as La Sieste), Chaumes de Cordeville, Two Little Girls...
