WhenArt Brut comes to Paris... Theexhibition Aux Frontières de l'art brut, presented at the Halle Saint Pierre from September 20, 2023 to January 25, 2024, highlights the works of 15 prolific and singular artists. Although the majority of these creators have no formal artistic training, they are driven by a consuming passion for art. Their distinctive, easily recognizable universes reveal a boundless imagination.
From Pierre Amourette 's poignant ceramic Madonnas to Shinichi Sawada's fascinating sculptural creatures, which seem to fuse human, reptile and bird features, the exhibition is a feast for the senses. Each artist reveals a unique dimension: whether it's Mohamed Babahoum's vivid drawings of Essaouira, which bring back fragile memories, or Marc Décimo's enigmatic plant assemblages, reflecting the immense power of mycelium. It's impossible not to be captivated by the intimacy of Patrick Navaï's works, in which the world's cultures intermingle and evolve, or by the breathtaking realism of Ronan-Jim Sevellec's miniature worlds.
Art brut, once defined by the orthodox positions of Dubuffet, has evolved into a heritage reality in constant transformation. Artists such as those presented at Halle Saint Pierre have chosen to embrace this art form, creating deeply personal and evocative works. While fully asserting their status as artists, they offer a fresh take on creation, far removed from convention and full of freedom. A not-to-be-missed artistic experience at Halle Saint Pierre!
