Once again this year, the Institut de France is taking part in Art Basel's "hors les murs" program at the Paris+ contemporary art fair. From October 12 to 23, 2024, come and admire the installation by renowned artist Niki de Saint-Phalle on the institution's forecourt.

It's one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year:contemporary art lovers are gearing up for the return of the Art Basel Paris fair ! This third edition promises to be even busier, with a packed program of exhibitions, meetings and activities.

Of course, we don't miss the major gathering of art galleries at the Grand Palais. But we don't stop there: a program of events outside the walls takes us to the four corners of the capital. Among the exhibitions on offer and the major sites to see this year, we once again find the forecourt of the Institut de France, in the 6th arrondissement.

From October 12 to 20, 2024, this temple to science and the arts will feature a brand new installation on its forecourt, just opposite the Pont des Arts.

This work was created by Franco-American artist Niki de Saint-Phalle. Artist, engraver, sculptor: this multi-talented artist is known the world over for her colorful, monumental creations. For Art Basel Paris, Niki de Saint-Phalle imagines a sparkling Snake Tree, covered with fragments of mirrors.

With this work, the artist aims to tame his phobia of snakes, by inventing a colorful, luminous hybrid creature. More than three meters high, the installation is also intended to reflect the monuments, the Seine and the walkers around it, integrating the work entirely into the 6th arrondissement's decor.

It's free, it's open access, it's new in Paris: all the more reason to see this installation again and again! And don't miss the other open-air exhibitions scheduled during this week of contemporary art.
