Culture, art, archaeology: Manish Pushkale combines passion and knowledge to tell us a true story, both touching and gripping. Discover the"song of the birds", the Aka-Bo language of the Bo tribe, a language that became extinct in 2010, along with its last female speaker. Indian artist Manish Pushkale pays tribute to this tribe and their culture in a new exhibition at the Musée Guimet.
The Parisian museum is giving the artist carte blanche to unveil an immersive, labyrinthine installation from October 18, 2023 to March 4, 2024.
We are drawn into this mysterious maze of three-metre-high screens. On the paper panels, we can see the cultures of the Andaman Islands, home to the Bo tribe, gradually fading away. Natural disasters, mass tourism and globalization have wiped out these tribes, their histories, traditions and languages.
In this journey framed by screens, we discover the song of birds, ephemerally reborn on Manish Pushkale's canvases. Thousands of signs, lines and dots tell a secret story. Damaged, erased and perforated paper symbolizes a culture that fades over time, the changes that give birth to and destroy civilizations. Birds hidden in the exhibition sing, giving voice to this vanished language. The artist has also created a nest containing two eggs: a message of hope, rebirth and the vulnerability of our world.
Come and discover this contemporary Indianartist and his moving, poetic universe at the Musée Guimet.
