For its latest carte blanche, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche welcomes Daniel Buren's free exhibition "Aux Beaux Carrés : travaux in situ". The installation, conceived in 2 acts from January 9 to February 18, 2024, then from June 29 to August 15, 2024, transcends the space of the department store to offer new luminous and colorful perspectives to visitors.

Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche welcomes its ninth guest artist, Daniel Buren, as part of the"Carte blanche de janvier" program. This initiative, paying homage to the Month of White, has been celebratingcontemporary art since 2016, featuring renowned international artists such as Ai Weiwei, Johanna Vasconcelos, Prune Nourry and most recently Subodh Gupta.

Daniel Buren, famous for his vertical stripes alternating white and color, presents"Aux Beaux Carrés: travaux in situ", a free two-act exhibition sponsored by Galleria Continua, exploring the square form inspired by the tiles of the iconic Bon Marché Rive Gauche stained-glass windows.

Since the 1960s, the French artist has explored the concept of working in situ, "sculpting" his works in harmony with their site. Between classic exhibitions and public projects, Daniel Buren 's success story began in 1986 with his controversial intervention in the main courtyard of the Palais Royal, "Les Deux Plateaux", now a listed historic monument. His new installation at Le Bon Marché offers a two-part promenade, playing with shapes, movements, colors and light on a monumental scale.

From January 9 to February 18, 2024,Act I offers an immersive experience with original creations, including XXL pieces under the glass roofs and two exploded huts, one yellow and the other blue, in which to wander around the second floor. The store's emblematic escalator, meanwhile, features white and black versions of Buren's vertical stripes, marking a visual separation between the works under the glass roofs. The eight main window displays are illuminated with colored checkerboard backlights, giving a foretaste of the exhibition from the rue de Sèvres onwards.

Act II, from June 29 to August 15, 2024, extends the discovery with new pieces exploring the square, to be discovered under the two central glass roofs and in the department store windows.
