From June 18 to September 29, 2024, theOrangerie at the Château de Versailles will be transformed into a lush setting, welcomingEva Jospin's masterful work"Chambre de soie". This textile-couture exhibition invites visitors to wander through a monumental embroidery creation, weaving a striking dialogue with the imposing architecture of the site.
Inspired by the Salle aux Broderies in Rome's Palazzo Colonna and Virginia Woolf's novel "A Room of One's Own", Eva Jospin took on the challenge of creating an embroidery measuring 350 m2 and 105 m long. A real feat! Produced in collaboration with artisans from the Chanakya workshop and the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai, each thread, derived from the lines of the artist's drawing, weaves a story through more than 400 shades of skeins of silk, cotton and jute. The installation, reminiscent of 19th-century panoramas, had already been unveiled at the Dior haute couture show for the autumn-winter 2021-2022 season.
A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, Eva Jospin specializes in the composition of forest and architectural landscapes. Her work has been exhibited around the world, but now it's back to Versailles, where she's lining the walls of the Orangerie, creating a work as spectacular as the grandeur of the château's gardens, from which she also drew inspiration to create an original strip of embroidery to add to the ensemble. "Chambre de soie", installed in a linear fashion, takes visitors on an immersive journey into the heart of this monumental embroidery.
The Orangerie, a grandiose backdrop, will sublimate Eva Jospin's monumental embroidery. An alchemy of scale and theme, inviting us to take an artistic stroll through the couture gardens of Versailles.
