For the Palais de Tokyo, art is a powerful tool, capable of breaking down barriers, putting an end to violence, healing the spirit and giving a voice to those in need. Thecontemporary art center aims to break down the taboos surrounding mental health, with a ground-breaking group exhibition.
Some 15 artists and collectives will come together from February 16 to June 30, 2024 for the exhibition Toucher l'insensé, as part of the palace's spring 2024 season. An exhibition that explores institutional psychotherapy, the contribution of art to psychiatry, and the need for community in these centers outside society.
Films and videos, collages, paintings, installations, drawings, photos: various works are brought together to talk about these still taboo, often intimate subjects.
The exhibition questions the way we treat mental problems, explores the social and institutional causes of these disorders, and questions new experiments aimed at transforming places of care into refuges against violence. Whether caregivers, patients or educators, art is a useful tool for all, creating links and bridges between minds and feelings. This form of expression becomes an instrument ofemancipation, offering a safe, poetic space for all.
We discover the works of various artists and young talents, who are interested in the reasons for art, and the tools of psychotherapy. The obvious is no longer so certain, everyday life is being called into question, and our relationships with others, with society, are taking on a new look, and new needs.
With its new season, the Palais de Tokyo invites us to broaden our horizons, and to put ourselves in the shoes of the Other, that stranger so close to us. An exhibition not to be missed.
