Attention contemporary art lovers... The Palais de Tokyo is hosting a striking and deeply moving exhibition entitled Dislocations, from February 16 to June 30, 2024. The exhibition brings together fifteen artists from different geographical and generational horizons, including Afghanistan, Iran, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine and Ukraine. These artists share a unique commonality: their work is deeply marked by the experience of exile, a tearing between past and present, between their homeland and their new reality. Dislocations explores these narratives of uprooting with a sensibility that transcends cultural and temporal boundaries.
The heart of this exhibition lies in the way these artists use their art to bear witness to their experiences of displacement, imprisonment and war, while infusing them with themes of resilience and reparation. The originality of Dislocations lies in the interaction between ancestral skills and contemporary technologies, and in the use of simple, humble materials. These artistic choices symbolize the power of art as a means of expression in the face of humanity's darkest challenges. Theexhibition thus offers a space where the artists' personal narratives intersect and resonate with current global geopolitical events, making them watchdogs of their time.
Dislocations is the fruit of a collaboration between the Palais de Tokyo and the Portes ouvertes sur l'art association, an initiative aimed at promoting artists in situations of exile or exclusion, and is supported by personalities and foundations such as Fairouz Chaarani and the Fondation Antoine de Galbert. The aim is to create a dialogue between these artists and the wider art world, facilitating enriching cultural exchanges and opening doors to new artistic perspectives.
