Anselm Kiefer continues to conquer the capital! Following a retrospective at the Grand Palais Éphémère in 2021, the White Cube is hosting an exhibition of the artist's watercolors, entitled For Jean-Noël Vuarnet, from January 24 to March 2, 2024. Bringing together a selection ofwatercolors produced over the last ten years in his studio in France, this exhibition is the first in over forty years dedicated exclusively to this type of work by the artist, but it also reveals a lesser-known but equally fascinating facet of his talent.
Delving into Kiefer's world, theexhibition is a tribute to the French philosopher and writer Jean-Noël Vuarnet, whose stay at the Villa Médicis, and his book Extases féminines, had a profound impact on the German artist. This is an exploration of inspiration and influence, where each watercolor becomes a dialogue between two creative minds. The connection between Anselm Kiefer and Jean-Noël Vuarnet is articulated through works that are not only visual, but also invite philosophical reflection.
An opportunity to appreciate the more personal, introspective dimension of the artist's work. The watercolors on display reveal a vulnerability and sensitivity that contrast with the grandeur and complexity often associated with his more monumental works. It's an open window into his soul, offering visitors an immersive and emotionally rich experience. All you have to do is visit White Cube!
