If you're a lover of Land Art, then you're bound to be familiar with French artist Guillaume Legros, better known by his pseudonym Saype. Since 2015, the land artist has been unveiling his fascinating, monumental ephemeral works on social networks, scattered across the four corners of the globe (Paris, Buenos Aires, Liverpool, Geneva, Turin, Istanbul, New York, Nairobi, Tokyo, Montreal, La Plagne...).
For almost 10 years now, Saype has been creating black-and-white, life-size works on the ground, mainly on grass, but also occasionally on earth, sand or snow. The aim is to " impact mentalities without impacting nature ", using an "eco-responsible" paint, , essentially made from chalk and charcoal. " It took me 3 years of research and development and 5 years of environmental studies ", the contemporary artist explained to France Info in 2023. His works, as poetic as they are committed, have the particularity of fading with nature (grass growing back) and the weather (rain, storms...).
It has to be said that the land artist is of the prolific kind. Since 2015, Saype has created over fifty works, 19 of which revolve around his famous " Beyond Walls " project. This project, which began in 2019 in Paris, unveils intertwined hands, reaching out, squeezing and uniting. It's a committed work that aims above all to convey a positive message of mutual aid across the world.
A fascinating body of work that Galerie Danysz has decided to showcase this spring with Saype's very first solo exhibition in the capital. Entitled " Timeshot " , this installation is not to be missed from April 26 to June 15, 2024. Spanning all three levels of the gallery, the exhibition will showcase Saype 's work through photographs and drawings by the land artist. And since admission is free, you'd be wrong to miss out!
To top it all off, Galerie Danysz has announced a vernissage in Saype's presence, scheduled for Thursday April 25 from 6pm to 9pm.
