Do you knowLevi van Veluw? A contemporary, multidisciplinary artist, Levi van Veluw is the creator of several works including photographs, videos, sculptures, installations and drawings. Born in 1985, the Dutch artist has already won several awards, including Photographer of the Year at the IPA International Photo Awards in the USA, and the De Volkskrant Beeldende Kunst prijs at the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam.
This spring, Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire presents Levi van Veluw's first solo show in Paris. To be discovered in the 3rd arrondissement of the capital from Thursday May 2 to Saturday June 8, 2024, this artistic event plunges visitors into Levi van Veluw's inner world, transcribed through two monumental and unusual installations as well as intimate sculptures.
With this free exhibition, entitled"We do not remember", Levi van Veluw intends to surprise passers-by by transforming the gallery window into a work of art, made from 120 replicas of his own effigy.
Once inside the Les Filles du Calvaire gallery, accessible via a small interior courtyard on the left, Levi van Veluw imagined a second monumental installation, this time in the form of a 6-metre-high cylindrical object spanning the gallery's two floors. On the walls of this room, shelves reveal hundreds of heads, from top to bottom, with a tenfold effect thanks to mirrors on the floor and ceiling.
In addition to these two unusual installations, Levi van Veluw also exhibits sculptures and drawings, and unveils an autobiographical film directly inspired by his childhood memories. Through his various works, which call into question our human logic, Levi Van Veluw invites us to question our obsession with control and the quest for infinity.
Visit Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire in Paris from May 2 to June 8, 2024 to discover these works and installations by Levi van Veluw.
