With the Olympic and Paralympic Games just around the corner, the number of sports-related exhibitions is increasing. History of the Games, great athletes, sport during the war, sport and fashion... Artist Édouard Salmon has decided to take an unusual look at sport... Literally.
The photographer reveals 32 shots of sporting performances or sports-related locations, seen from the sky. On the walls of Bercy Village, from April 18 to September 15, 2024, we can discover the exhibition Le sport vu du ciel, a series of photographs that allow us to see sport differently. Here, art and beauty take precedence over physical feats.
Stadiums, athletics tracks, tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, surf sessions, ski slopes, baseball fields... These places are revealed from the sky, thanks to drone technology. Seen from above, physical activities lose their aspect of power and competition to gain in aesthetic appeal. The photographer captures the athletes' movements, their strength, the gestures that bring these sports fields to life. These places, all lines, colors and curves, become works of art in their own right. From the sky, we can appreciate the symmetry and elegance of these spaces, which become miniature universes, detached from the rest of the world.
Édouard Salmon's exhibition offers us a fresh look at sport, far from the performances, scores and shouts. A beautiful and original journey awaits us, where colors, lines, lights and shadows allow us to rediscover those sports fields we thought so commonplace.
