A symbol of freedom and pollution, technological advances and egocentricity, the car fuels passions and inspires artists. Some fifteencontemporary French and international artists explore the world of the automobile and the motor, in a groundbreaking exhibition to be admired at MAC-VAL from April 26 to September 22, 2024.
Come and visit the exhibition Humain Autonome : Déroutes, and discover a wide range of works: photographs, installations, paintings, sculptures... Artists from different generations confront their vision of this motorized universe, full of contradictions.
On the one hand, the car has brought greater freedom, pushing back frontiers, opening up new horizons and developing new industries. But the expansion of the car has also been at the expense of nature and the environment: flower-filled fields and animals lie beneath the wheels of the car.
The automobile has also helped to transform cities, landscapes and lives: work, housing and population movements are all influenced by the automotive system. The automobile has become a tool, a constraint, a geopolitical issue, a question of the future, a symbol of self-extension.
The artists question these collective and individual issues, exploring notions of interdependence and determination. In this vast exhibition, the works surprise and astonish, and arouse different feelings: embarrassment and concern, admiration, amusement... Conceived as an invitation to reflect, the exhibition offers no definitive answers, but prompts us to reflect on our uses of and attachment to the automotive world.
The MAC-VAL offers us a fascinating exhibition to discover without delay.
