Three artists, three distinct worlds. This spring, Galleria Continua, the renowned contemporary art gallery in the heart of Paris, is showcasing the work of Barbana Bojadzi, winner of the 4th Prix Sisley, Cuban Yoan Capote and Franco-Venezuelan Carlos Cruz-Diez. The installations by these three artists can be viewed free of charge until May 28, 2024.
We begin our visit on the first floor with Barbana Bojadzi's " Ordered Fields " exhibition. Graduating from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2021 and awarded the Prix Khalil de Chazournes the same year, the artist exhibits her incredible panel paintings, created specifically for the exhibition, as well as recent works. Approached as landscapes, these original paintings are the result of an accumulation of layers of color on panels generally used in construction or renovation.
A little further on, we discover the fascinating exhibition by Carlos Cruz-Diez (1923-2019). Entitled " L'Euphorie de la couleur ", this installation is the French-Venezuelan artist's first in this Parisian venue. Considered a major figure in contemporary art and a pioneer of kinetic art, Carlos Cruz-Diez delights us with his ultra-colorful, disconcerting works that honor chromatic induction.
The exhibition features some of the artist's most emblematic works, such as the historic " Fisicromía 54 " and " Fisicromía 55 " (1962), and " Objeto rítmico móvil manipulable " (1956). These works " embody the beginnings of the artist's research into the dissociation of the form-color binomial and the fragmentation of the plane ", according to the exhibition.
Finally, we head upstairs to Galleria Continua to discover Yoan Capote's " Espinario " exhibition. This is the artist's first monographic exhibition at the Parisian venue. An opportunity to admire a selection of works by this artist and sculptor from the Cuban contemporary scene. Several themes are explored here, essentially linked to the artist's socio-political reflections, such as migration and borders, or freedom of expression.
His must-have works include " Purification (struggimento) " (2024), a work created especially for the exhibition, and the wall installation " Speechless " (2019), made from casts of people he met outside his studio in Havana.
What makes Yoan Capote so special? Recycling chains, barbed wire, handcuffs and other metal detritus, which he reworks into different shapes and sizes. In this " Espinario " exhibition, for example, there's " Sentimientos encontrados " (2024), a mix of saw blades, oil and plaster on jute mounted on wooden panels, and " Cortinas de hierro " (2024), made from fishhooks, nails and oil on linen mounted on a wooden panel.
To discover the artistic universe of these three talented artists, head to Galleria Continua in Paris until May 28, 2024. And since admission is free, you'd be wrong to miss out!
