The Musée de l'Orangerie overlooks the Place de la Concorde in Paris. Due to the Olympic events being held on this square, the museum must adapt its access conditions during the summer of 2024. We explain.

It won't have escaped your notice: Paris is hosting the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, from July 26 to August 11, then from August 28 to September 8, 2024. During this period, the City of Light is transforming itself to welcome athletes and tourists from all over the world: sports venues and fan zones have been built all over the capital.

One of the most important venues for the competition will undoubtedly be the Place de la Concorde, where you can watch 3x3 basketball, skateboarding, BMX freestyle and breakdance- the four additional sports chosen for the Paris Games.

However, the organization of these events requires a few concessions. To ensure the safety of the Games and enable athletes to compete in the best possible conditions, access to the Place de la Concorde has been restricted. Cars, pedestrians and public transport will only have limited access to the square and its surroundings. This news does not necessarily please the tourist sites located on the edge of the square.

Faced with these constraints, the Musée du Jeu de Paume decided to close its doors for the summer. Located on the other side of the Tuileries Gardens, just above the Place de la Concorde, the Musée de l'Orangerie has chosen to remain open... Under certain conditions.

The Paris museum, home to Monet's famous Water Lilies, warns its visitors on its official website: " Due to the organization of the Paris 2024 games, access to the Musée de l'Orangerie is modified. Access to the Jardin des Tuileries is limited. "

More specifically, the Musée de l'Orangerie is anticipating very high attendance during these Games, so we strongly advise you to reserve your place in advance if you're planning a visit between July 3 and 13. From July 14 to September 1, reservations are compulsory for all visitors. The museum will also be closed on July 20, 25 and 26, and August 26 and 28.

Finally, please note that a QR code authorization will be required for everyone between July 18 and 24. This QR code may take several days to be issued, so please apply in advance.

Distant subways

Access to the museum will be more difficult. Metro stations in the vicinity are closed for the duration of the Games. The nearest open stations are: Madeleine station (lines 8 and 14), Madeleine and Solférino stations (line 12) and Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre station (lines 1 and 7). To enter the Tuileries Gardens and reach the museum, you'll need to use the ephemeral footbridge on rue de Rivoli at rue Castiglione, or the gate at the Sédar Senghor footbridge.

Before your next summer visit to the Musée de l'Orangerie, we advise you to check the day's access conditions on the website.
