In the heart of theHôtel de Mercy-Argenteau , theÉcole des Arts Joailliers is hostingan ephemeral exhibition of exceptional pieces by one of the world's leading jewelry collectors, Japan's Kazumi Arikawa, from September 19 to 26, 2024. Some twenty pieces from his Albion Art collection are presented to the general public free of charge, to mark the launch of his book of the same name, "Divins Joyaux. In Search of Beauty".
As in the book, the exhibition retraces the history of jewelry and the career of this extraordinary collector, divided into ten thematic chapters, featuring some twenty jewels, from cameos and intaglios of Antiquity to 19th-century naturalistic pieces. Highlights include Art Nouveau jewelry such as René Lalique's"Dancing Nymphs" pendant, a ballerina brooch by Van Cleef & Arpels from 1951, and a garland-style tiara by Filippo Chiappe for Count Raggio's wedding, circa 1909.
An insight into forty years of searching for the finest jewels by this passionate man who used to be a Buddhist monk and sees gems as a spiritual journey to delight his soul. Throughout his career, he has owned rare pieces of unrivalled artistic and historical value, including royal jewels from all over Europe!
To gain access to this free exhibition, you'll need to register on a special platform: bookings opened at the beginning of September, and in view of the response, you'll have to count on some absentees to have their places put back online! Visits are by small groups only, during 30-minute guided tours led by historians from L'École des Arts Joailliers.
