When the capital gets in tune with design, a veritable wave of creativity sweeps through its most emblematic monuments. For Paris Design Week 2024, from September 4 to 15, theHôtel de la Marine, the former royal furniture repository on the Place de la Concorde, welcomes two contemporary talents to create striking in-situ works.
CabinetmakerPierre Renart has taken his inspiration from Hugh Dutton's diamond-shaped glass roof to create Escale. This work, conceived as a meditative stopover, is a hammock made of hornbeam wood, spread out like a fan on a base. Each slat delicately intertwines, evoking the edges of the glass roof. It's a real technical feat, conveying the suppleness of the wood in perfect harmony with the filtered light of the sky.
On the other side, in the Cour d'Honneur, Studio Uchronia brings the walls of the Hôtel de la Marine to life with a colorful artistic installation. The collective, led by Julien Sebban, pays tribute to the French-style beds of 18th-century stewards with a bright, pop, tiled XXL four-poster bed. Created in Palet earthenware, this chromatic work plays on the gradations of the sky with red, recalling the shades of the building's hangings. A podium also invites visitors to curl up on it, surrounded by outdoor fabric curtains that dance in the wind.
For 11 exceptional days, theHôtel de la Marine will be the stage for an arty encounter between historical heritage and contemporary creation. A must-see spot at Paris Design Week 2024!
