One of her films won the title of " Best Film of All Time " in 2022: it's hard to make a better CV than that. The Jeu de Paume pays tribute to the great filmmaker Chantal Akerman, in a ground-breaking exhibition entitled Travelling, on view from September 28, 2024 to January 19, 2025.
The Belgian artist is considered one of the leading figures of modern cinema: her subversive, experimental, intimate or hyper-realistic works tell the story of their author's life, thoughts and emotions. Through her films, Chantal Akerman reveals her vision of the world, her anxieties and her hopes. Each work is an opportunity to explore and push back the limits of cinema: the director has studied and made her own every shooting technique, making her films unique and complex.
Almost 10 years after his death, the Jeu de Paume wishes to honor this key figure of contemporary 7th art. For this exhibition, the institution has brought together several feature-length films, installations created by the artist, and a bio-filmography containing previously unpublished archives.
Once again, Chantal Akerman tells her own story through her images: the Jeu de Paume has pieced together this curious puzzle in a retrospective and artistic journey. The years, the cities and the films scroll by, revealing the secrets of this atypical filmmaker.
Lovers of the 7th art won't want to miss this tribute exhibition, which opens in September 2024.
