Unless you travel to more exotic regions than our own, it's hard to reach 50 degrees at our latitudes. And yet, this is what we're facing in a few years' time, due to climate disruption. The city of Paris, which carried out a full-scale crisis exercise in October 2023, is now offering the chance to test this temperature in an immersive experience over a few days, from November 19 to 21, 2024, to raise public awareness.
According to climatologists from the Groupe d'expertise sur le changement climatique en Île-de-France, extreme heatwaves with peaks at this temperature could occur in the short term, if nothing changes.Paris City Hall is therefore hosting a device, Climate Sense, which allows visitors to experience the impact of this heat on the body and mind, to warn of this danger to the daily lives and health of Parisians.
Participants are immersed at over 50 degrees and invited to perform physical and cognitive activities in these much more challenging conditions. A sensory awareness of what could become a reality, accompanied by a course of events to reflect on concrete solutions. If you'd like to take part, you'll need to fill in a medical questionnaire beforehand, and bring a change of clothes just in case.
The city is planning well ahead, with its fourth Climate Plan and a new resilience strategy to prepare the capital and its inhabitants for future shocks, its Local Bioclimatic Urban Plan and its Parisian Environmental Health Plan.
