The Palais de Tokyo hosts Raphaël Barontini's exhibition "Quelque part dans la nuit, le peuple danse" from February 20 to May 11, 2025. A plunge into living narratives combining historical archives and contemporary creations, at the crossroads of tradition and innovation.

A rereading of African and Caribbean stories through art... The Palais de Tokyo is devoting an exhibition to artist Raphaël Barontini, entitled Quelque part dans la nuit, le peuple danse, from February 20 to May 11, 2025. This installation proposes a rereading of these stories, through a dialogue between archives from the past and contemporary techniques. Paintings, costumes, textiles, sound works and performances combine in an original scenography to offer an immersive, all-encompassing experience.

The title of theexhibition is inspired by an extract fromAimé Césaire's major work, La Tragédie du roi Christophe. This play, published in 1963, deals with the construction of the Haitian nation after the revolution against slavery and colonization. This choice reflects Raphaël Barontini 's artistic quest to explore collective joy and universal cultural symbols.

Raphaël Barontini, born in Saint-Denis in 1984, revisits traditional representations of power and historical narratives. His creations, which combine painting, silkscreen and digital prints, question classical representations and celebrate a plural history. As the artist explains, " [son] important research work opens up to narratives and representations that [lui] are their own," building rich and singular alternative narratives. An exhibition to discover during your visit to the Palais de Tokyo.
