Art and history lovers, mark your calendars! The Château de Fontainebleau - and other venues in the surrounding area - is getting ready to host the 13th edition of the Art History Festival from June 2 to 4, 2023. The castle's teams are preparing a program rich in events to explore the links between artistic and natural heritage, with a particular focus on the theme of climate this year.

The issue of climate is not new to Fontainebleau. As early as 1642, Father Pierre Dan addressed the subject in his book Trésor des Merveilles de la Maison Royale de Fontainebleau. The festival is therefore an opportunity to rediscover the castle from this angle, with a program of guided tours addressing the climatic issues related to the history of the monument. In addition, the public will be able to learn more about the challenges posed by climate change to the curators and managers of the castle's parks and gardens.

The reign of Louis XIV, for example, took place under the cold sun of a Little Ice Age, and the festival will tell the story of ancient societies in the face of the cold, through visits to the Grands and Petits Appartements. Festival-goers will also have the opportunity to discover the "behind-the-scenes" reflections on how to sustainably conserve this heritage complex in the face of climate change. The historic gardens, real living paintings and changing, will necessarily be transformed in the decades to come.

This 13th edition of the Fontainebleau Art History Festival therefore promises to offer a unique and enriching experience to its visitors. By tackling the theme of climate, the Château de Fontainebleau invites the public to reflect on current and future heritage issues, while highlighting its rich and complex history. It's also a great opportunity to get out and about with family and friends!
