It'sone of Yerres' biggest green lungs (not to say THE city's green lung): the Parc Caillebotte, named after its former owners, is an 11-hectare estate, accessible free of charge every day of the year.
Maintained around the Maison Caillebotte, which belonged to the Caillebotte family from 1860 to 1879, the park was one of the favorite subjects of painter Gustave Caillebotte, who lived here with his brothers and parents. Adorned with fabriques, small buildings designed to blend seamlessly into the park, the garden offers a bucolic stroll through this magnificent green space. With its large lawns facing the beautiful Paladian columns of the immaculate facade of the house, the site is full of little treasures, little nuggets that enhance the walk.
Situated on the banks of the Yerres River, the Parc Caillebotte includes the Maison's vegetable garden, with its original greenhouse, and a small chapel built at the request of Martial Caillebotte, father of Gustave (the painter), so that his son Alfred Caillebotte, a priest, could give mass every Sunday for the estate's inhabitants.
As you continue your walk, you're sure to come across the Glacière, overlooked by a kiosk. It was here, in a natural cold chamber 7 meters deep, that food was preserved. The curiosity of this icehouse is certainly the kiosk above it: this lookout pavilion dominates the garden and is adorned with griffins, in a nod to Mont Griffon, the highest point in the region. Cross the Yerres on the park's wrought-iron footbridge and continue your walk to thepier, where you can hire boats to take you around the water.
How much do the boats cost? When can I rent one?
To hire a rowing boat (maximum 4 people), charge €5 per 30 minutes and €9 per hour. For canoes (max. 3 people), charge €4 per 30 minutes and €7 per hour. Boats are available for hire from Tuesday to Sunday (3pm to 7pm) in July and August, as well as on weekends and public holidays (3pm to 7pm) in May and June, and on weekends (3pm to 6pm) in the first half of September.
Moving closer to the Maison Caillebotte, this time, discover theOrangerie: this neo-classical building was used to protect the orange trees during the winter, when the Caillebottes lived in the house. Temporary exhibitions are now held here. Finally, end your stroll at the Chalet Suisse, a mountain chalet that once served as the estate's dairy, or the Chaumière, a small mountain-style house that served as a tool storage area.
On-site fitness facilities and several children's play areas are available to all park visitors. To enable as many visitors as possible to discover the park, a free guided tour of the garden, the fabriques and the kitchen garden is offered every first Sunday of the month, at 3pm (duration 1h30). Please register with the Maison Caillebotte.
The park is open to all, free of charge, every day of the year. Timetables change only with the seasons. To get to Parc Caillebotte, simply take the RER D from Paris (Gare de Lyon, Gare du Nord, Châtelet... there are several departure stops) in the direction of Melun and get off at the Yerres stop.
