Hiking: from l'île des Impressionnistes to Sartrouville, along the long-distance footpath

Last September, the Fédération française de Randonnée (French Hiking Federation ) marked the occasion with the creation of a brand-new Grande randonnée (GR, editor's note) trail, covering a total of over 130 kilometers, to reach Giverny from Chatou, following in the footsteps of Corot, Sisley, Monet... and many other Impressionist painters.

Divided into eight stages, the trail crosses much of the Île-de-France region, following the course of the Seine to Vernon and Giverny in Normandy. Leaving from Chatou - and more precisely, from the town'sÎle des Impressionnistes - we invite you to discover the very first stage of this great hike, linking Chatou to Sartrouville, in the Yvelines department, on an easy stroll accessible to all levels. Along the way, you'll discover the bucolic Île des Impressionnistes in Chatou, and follow the banks of the Seine as it winds its way up towards Normandy.

After the GR75 which circles Paris, the GR1, the GR2 which follows the course of the Seine and many other Grande Randonnée (GR) trails which also pass through the capital and the Ile-de-France region, the committee of the Fédération Française de Randonnée has just added a brand new circuit to its catalog, in the footsteps of the Impressionists in the Ile-de-France region. The good news, if you don't live in Chatou and don't have a car, is that the start and finish points are served by public transport (RER line A, Rueil-Malmaison and Sartrouville stop).
