It's one of those good addresses where you can enjoy a vacation vibe all year round in Paris. In the four corners of the capital, these exotic spots are like a stopover for Parisians of a day and of all times in search of escape. If you're dreaming of sunshine and good Iberian flavours, then here's a bodega-style dining cellar that should catch your fancy. To discover it, head to the Batignolles district, at 167 rue de Rome, and push open the doors of Montijo.
Here, Parisians go Spanish. With rattan furniture, terra cotta benches and a luminous, plant-filled veranda, time seems to stand still in this décor imagined by Katya Goncharova, inviting us to take a break from the hectic pace of life in the capital. A monumental stained-glass window depicting living together completes the setting. Here, you can expect a convivial atmosphere and a taste for good Hispanic cuisine.
Oenophiles will be delighted by the 50 or so wines on the natural wine list, featuring mainly Spanish varietals, but not only: Greece, Portugal, Italy and other Mediterranean countries are also represented.
For gourmets, the emphasis will be on Hispanic cuisine, including the essential tortilla, pan con tomate with or without anchovies, and salads perfect for sunny days, such as the Feta Salad, with sun-dried tomatoes, garlic tapenade and sucrine, or the Ensalada Rusa, made with melt-in-the-mouth light tuna belly, sweet chilli pepper and sun-kissed Gordal olives.... enough to lull you into a holiday mood.
What's more, for those with a sweet tooth, the brioche perdue revisited with a lemon cream that echoes the traditional tarte meringuée could well be your guilty pleasure. If you're less partial to sweet treats, but still feel like indulging in a dessert, don't miss our favorite, the tarta de queso de la vina, a lightly sweetened and terribly indulgent Basque cheesecake that will bring your escapade to a refreshing close. Bonus? These tapas will delight you at any time of day: yes, the Montijo is in continuous service!
The place also intends to vibrate to the rhythm of an artistic program combining vernissages, evenings dedicated to the creative arts, wine masterclasses and other surprises.
