On the Left Bank of Paris, you'll find a place with a very special atmosphere: the Latin Quarter. Here, time seems to stand still, as you walk through thecapital's history, past shops that look like windows onto the past. Just a stone's throw from the Marché Saint-Germain, an astonishing address contributes to the very special, anachronistic vibe you feel when you visit this cult quarter of the capital. Facing the famous gourmet hall, La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels boasts a dark, mysterious facade that we venture to cross. Curiosity is piqued: the treasure concealed here will not remain an insider's secret for long!
Inside, you'll find a timeless atmosphere, with old-fashioned charm without being outdated. A multi-faceted room awaits you at, a wine bar that proudly pays homage to the spirit of the Latin Quarter. To each his own: some will choose to lean against the imposing counter, others will settle on the banquettes in a subdued atmosphere, while still others will prefer to curl up in the back lounge, bathed in daylight thanks to a glass roof. Either way, you'll enjoy a relaxed vibe with a laid-back playlist that contributes to the anachronistic spirit of the place.
At La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels, you'll find yourself in the heart of a den of passionate enthusiasts united in their love of oenology. Here, over 900 wine references await you, and the selection grows month by month. Here you'll find the great estates of today and tomorrow, as well as niche estates spotted by Nathan Menou, head sommelier and director of the establishment. While France remains the most represented country on the menu (cocorico!), there are also producers from the four corners of the globe, including Spain, Portugal, Canada, the United States and Cyprus.
But be warned, as we said earlier, wine here is a matter of passion. Don't be put off by an elitist approach tooenology, La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels caters to connoisseurs and the curious alike, with the added bonus of a menu to suit all budgets. The price of a bottle can range from around forty to over three thousand euros, and a weekly changing selection by the glass is also on offer to encourage the spirit of discovery.
This is how we came to taste Solessence Rosé J.M Sélèque, a refreshing sparkling rosé made from a blend of pinot meunier, chardonnay and coteau champenois. On the white side, we discovered Domaine les Ormousseaux's Coteaux du Giennois, with its strong character. Our favorite is Nathan Menou, who enthusiastically shared with us his passion for a red wine, Cuvée Pradelou from Domaine de la Terrasse d'Elise, with its spicy, fruity and floral notes.
The food menu is also in line with this approach. Here you'll find fresh produce from local shops (after all, we're right opposite the gourmet Marché Saint-Germain). Depending on your mood, desires or budget, you can indulge in beef rillettes, charcuterie platters or tarama à la bonne franquette, melt for a creamy burrata, indulge in mature cheeses, savor a comforting homemade vegetarian croque monsieur or treat yourself to an exceptional tasting experience with caviar accompanied by blinis. Even sweet tooths are not left out, with pastries by Arnaud Lahrer, Meilleur Ouvrier de France.
