Forget all your preconceptions about healthy cuisine (too light, too bland, not gourmet enough...) and walk through the doors of Café Mareva, in the 18th arrondissement.
At the helm of the spot is Mareva Ranftl, who discovered a few years ago that she was lactose intolerant. A financial analyst for a major American corporation, she decided to leave everything behind to open Café Mareva, after completing a CAP in pastry-making.
As a result, at Café Mareva, there's zero lactose, zero gluten, but lots of fun in a place that's not just for the lactose intolerant! In fact, with this coffee shop, Mareva Ranftl wanted to prove to everyone that you can eat healthily while pleasing your taste buds and stomach.
The menu features healthy, vegetarian and vegan dishes... as well as carnivorous ones! The star of the show is the home-made sweet potato waffle, available in the best-selling 'classic avocado' version (11€), the Italian version with pesto, parmesan and coppa (12€), with chicken curry (13€) or the BLT version (the famous trio of bacon, lettuce and tomato; 13€).
All day long, at Café Mareva, gourmands and gourmets can sit down to brunch at a very reasonable price (22€)! The menu offers a choice of classic savory and sweet waffles (4-6€). Don't miss the generous fried chicken waffle made in the USA. Totally food porn!
What's more, all the toppings here are homemade, from peanut butter and praline to caramel and vegan whipped cream. We're telling you, it's all good stuff!
Café Mareva also offers rice flour pancakes, avocado toast (9€), eggs on toast, buddah bowls (13€), smoothie bowls (9€), gluten-free soups (8€) and a whole host of homemade pastries, cakes and tarts of the day!
As for drinks, we hesitate between a tea from Brûlerie Belleville, a fresh fruit juice of the day (4€), a homemade iced tea, a homemade lemonade (4€)... In the end, we opt for the chai tea latte (5€), to fill up on energy!
In short, Café Mareva is the perfect place to eat healthily without compromising on flavour and indulgence!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
