Are you looking for an exceptional tea time in a cosy or leafy setting? Then stop by the Bristol Paris. You can sit down in the Café Antonia or on the terrace of the Jardin Français on fine days, from May to September depending on the weather, to enjoy a divine afternoon tea.
On our visit, we were lucky: the weather was fine. So we could sit in the palace's indoor garden. A stone's throw from the Champs-Élysées, we find ourselves in a calm cocoon, far from the hustle and bustle of Paris, where only the lapping of the fountains can be heard. Tables are scattered along a central aisle, bordered on either side by a landscaped garden where fruit trees, rose bushes, lawns and climbing plants form the backdrop.
We start by choosing a hot or cold beverage from a wide range of teas and coffees. In hot weather, we opt for iced teas made with fruit and herbs. The Jardin d'eau rosé with melon and goji berries and the Jardin Anglais with mint, lemongrass and yellow fruit are sure to refresh.
Next come the savory bites, featuring a lobster roll topped with a lemon emulsion, and the truffle croque-monsieur. The brioche is homemade, and we love its softness, toasted before being served.
We then move on to the Savoy cake with vanilla sugar and preserved lemon, and the plain scone with Isigny cream and homemade rhubarb compote. The Savoy cake is as moist as you could wish for, with a rich vanilla flavor and a crunchy sugar finish. The scone, on the other hand, is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. With its cream and low-sugar compote, it's a real winner.
The desserte de pâtisserie unveils a vanilla entremets with vanilla caramel, a raspberry tartelette with almond cream and raspberry confit, and a caramel, buckwheat and sobacha éclair. We like the strength of the vanilla in the dense entremets, the tartness of the raspberry tart and the power of the buckwheat in the caramel éclair.
Arriving in January 2023, Yu Tanaka, Pastry Chef at Le Bristol Paris, brings his personal touch to the dessert and tea-time menu. His approach is characterized by the use of simple products, which he transforms into elaborate desserts. Yu Tanaka also brings a hint of Japanese influence to French classics such as Paris-Brest and mille-feuille, incorporating elements of his cultural heritage into his patisserie. His meticulous creations reveal a fine balance of flavors, while remaining faithful to a palette of traditional, accessible tastes.
