There are certain Parisian addresses that are an undeniable invitation to travel. Such is the case with Mille & Un. Nestled in the 6th arrondissement of Paris since 2019, this establishment takes you straight to South Korea to discover sweet and savory specialties that you're bound to get hooked on, once you've tasted them.
Seo Yongsang is the man behind this friendly, ultra-gourmet establishment. Head baker at the Grenier à Pain in Paris for 10 years, he wanted to launch a unique place, paying homage to the encounter between France and Korea. Behind the windows of Mille & Un, you'll find a wide variety of breads and baguettes (traditional, cereal, sesame...). And you can trust him, since Seo Yongsang was awarded the 8th prize for the best baguette in Paris in 2013. But sweet tooths needn't worry, as Mille & Un also satisfies the taste buds of its many customers with its viennoiseries and pastries blending the two cultures.
On the French side, you'll find flan, fine apple tarts, lemon tarts, millefeuille and the unmissable Paris-Brest, not to mention a croissant... with strawberries! A must-try at any time of day.
But many also come to Mille & Un for Korean specialties such as Patpain, a brioche bun filled with red bean paste, Goroké ( a savory specialty made with minced meat, potatoes, carrots, onions and curry sauce) or the famous matcha or black sesame rolls, the house's best-sellers.
A particular favorite is the"Saeng Cream". Don't be fooled by its generosity, this cake is ultra-light and above all delicious with its very thin slices of fruit, delicately slipped between each layer of sponge cake and mousseline cream. A real treat! For a break that's just as light and just as gourmet, why not try the matcha or black sesame madeleines, Mille & Un's latest addition to the range, ultra addictive with its glaze!
To accompany these delicacies, head for the tea room at the back of the bakery-pastry shop. This is the perfect place to sip one of the many in-house beverages, such as Caramel Macchiato, Korean green tea, Omija tea, ginger tea, hot chocolate, matcha latte or a tasty black sesame latte, all of which come highly recommended!
Mille & Un also offers sandwiches, Bibimbaps and salads at lunchtime.
After all that, you'll be able to say that your gourmet trip to South Korea was a success, and one you'll definitely want to repeat!
So, thank you to Mille & Un for this tasty escapade and see you soon, because our right ear tells us that a new place - a café - is due to open soon in Paris. To be continued!
