On Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, the Umami team is opening a real "Matsuri" with 30 Japanese producers and craftspeople who have come especially to the Galerie Joseph on rue Bailly!

Founded just 10 years ago by Japan lovers, Umami has become a renowned importer and source of Japanese products for chefs and the general public. Rice, miso, yuzu, umeboshi plums, sauces, tableware, knives, teapots - the products they select can be found on the tables of the greatest chefs, in bistronomic restaurants and in the homes of Parisians.

In response to their success, in 2016 Umami opened France's first matcha café, Umami matcha Café, a trailblazing venue for Japanese products! To celebrate 10 years of adventure, the Umami team is bringing the Galerie Joseph in the Marais district to life for a weekend, with a party worthy of the greatest Matsuri, where Japan lovers and fine gourmets can come together.

For the event, 30 loyal Umami suppliers will travel from all over Japan to represent their prefectures - Ibaraki, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Fukui, Ishikawa, Toyama, Tokushima, Osaka - and present their regional specialties: citrus fruits, tea, condiments, rice, noodles... Two partner producers will also be showcasing their latest finds: Yasai, with exceptional Japanese vegetables grown in France's Touraine region, and Gubi Gubi, a group of local Japanese winemakers!

Next door, a mini Umami Matcha Café will be set up to sample the best of the Umami menu, and a number of events will complete our immersion, including tea ceremonies, tasting workshops, a knife sharpening and engraving workshop, and a sake bar to sample the best of this Japanese rice wine.
