Just a stone's throw from Place Vendôme, the Château Voltaire is an intimate hotel with a lot going for it. This luxury hotel, the result of the merger of three buildings from the XVIIᵉ and XVIIIᵉ centuries, offers a unique experience combining refinement and intimacy. Its 32 rooms, including a penthouse suite with planted terrace, embody a contemporary vision of luxury hotels, far from the usual standards. Each room, conceived as a cocoon, combines noble materials, respected volumes and meticulous details, offering a true sense of exclusivity.
The project, orchestrated by artistic director Franck Durand and architectural duo Festen, took four years to bring together three buildings dating from the XVIIᵉ and XVIIIᵉ centuries. Every element of this hotel is designed to preserve history while adding a contemporary touch. From the moment you arrive, the tone is set: you are greeted in an intimate lounge, where the elegance of the surroundings invites you to a moment of relaxation before reaching the rooms, guided by a carpet adorned with golden laurel leaves.
With just 32 rooms and suites, some of which offer unique volumes or breathtaking views over the Avenue de l'Opéra, the Château Voltaire favors an intimate approach. Each room has been designed as a cocoon, with noble materials, sober decor and amenities designed for maximum comfort: a generous mini-bar, sofas, a desk and luxurious bathrooms. Special mention goes to room 47, a veritable rooftop apartment, with a green terrace designed by landscape architect Louis Benech. With its fruit trees and wild grasses, it offers the rare impression of being in a country house in the middle of Paris.
Château Voltaire doesn't stop at accommodation. The carefully appointed communal areas are designed to extend that experience of discreet luxury that makes us feel right at home. The La Coquille d'Or bar, with its subdued ambience, pays tribute to the history of the place, its facade dating from the XIXᵉ century being listed as a historic monument. Once a store sign or popular cabaret, it has been carefully restored to retain its period charm. This bar invites you to discover classic New York cocktails, such as the Manhattan or the Old Fashioned, in a hushed atmosphere of leather and velvet.
La Brasserie L'Émil, meanwhile, seduces with its elegant simplicity. Inspired by Parisian brasseries, its cuisine focuses on typically French products: mimosa eggs, fish, snails and classic French dishes. It's an address that attracts both tourists and Parisians looking for a warm, gourmet place that's open all day.
To complete the experience, the basement houses an exclusive spa, where guests can privatize the space for an hour of relaxation. This cocoon of well-being includes a swimming pool, sauna and hammam, offering a luxurious interlude far from the hustle and bustle of Paris.
Château Voltaire is also distinguished by its respect for history and heritage. The historic sign,"À la Coquille d'Or", photographed in the early XXᵉ century by Eugène Atget, has been carefully restored, testifying to the importance attached to every detail. This sensitivity to history is reflected in the Festen duo's architectural approach, which plays on contrasts between tradition and modernity, highlighting original volumes while sublimating them with contemporary elements.
More than just a hotel, the Château Voltaire is a declaration of love to Paris, its history and its elegance. Every space, from the rooms to the communal areas to the restaurant, seems to tell a story, that of a place designed to gather, share and celebrate the French art of living. It's a place that invites us to slow down, to enjoy simple pleasures in elegant surroundings, and to rediscover Paris from a new angle, that of intimate, accessible luxury.
