Fridays are priceless! An adage that fits the literal meaning of the term for restaurant Les Fils à Maman Abbesses, which organizes ano-price a la carte lunch menu every Friday. You come in, order your meal, have lunch and give whatever you want (in euros, of course) in return.
The menu is on a slate, with no price tag: a dish "just like home" and a dessert, priced at your discretion. It's as simple as that! As for the recipes, it's the moms who delight: boeuf bourguignon, coquillettes gratin, blanquette de veau... every Friday, a mom's speciality is on the menu, to vary the pleasures. The aim of this experiment is to please those with a sweet tooth and avoid wasting products. A single dish is served to those who choose this formula, and when there's nothing left, the service stops, so no leftovers! On the other hand, it's highly recommended to finish your plate, but that shouldn't be a problem... And if not, the restaurant still offers a revisited and regressive cuisine: dishes in the image of our childhood: casseroles and dishes in sauce, marrow bones, cordons bleus, soups, Babybel croquettes... all homemade with seasonal produce.
The spot's special feature: a brunch unlike any other, " 100% regressive ", starting with Kellogs cereals, viennoiseries and Nutella. You can then indulge in a plate of club sandwiches, a burger, a salad or a big steak. For dessert, you'll be served homemade treats and cakes(cheesecake, pancakes, yoghurts with müesli and fruit...) to suit your appetite.
We were tempted by a plate of viennoiseries and Nutella, a club sandwich, Uncle Jesse's plate (choice of egg, bacon, sausage, toast and French fries) and a fromage blanc muesli. Result: it's quite hearty, and particularly good. You can tell the dishes are homemade, and the meats and eggs are cooked to perfection according to your choice. We particularly like the fries, which are thin and have a real potato taste, neither too fatty nor too crispy. The fromage blanc muesli is to die for.
And last but not least, every first Tuesday of the month, in keeping with the restaurant's concept (with which you're already familiar), it's the moms who cook, accompanied by the chef for a unique menu for all. It's a great way to immerse yourself in Proust's madeleine... Yum.
