Do you like innovative and unusual cuisine? So do we, and that's why we're inviting you to follow us to Fuumi, the king of maki-burrito. Fuumi has two locations in Paris, in the 2nd (Sentier metro station) and 11th arrondissements (Goncourt metro station), and is delighting your taste buds with its brand-new gourmet menu, available for delivery or takeaway, thanks to Covid.
The concept in detail? It's quite simple: " Imagine a roll maki the size of a burrito, stuffed with fresh vegetables, rice, fish or chicken, accompanied by sauces of all kinds ". This is what the restaurant proposes on its website, which also explains that " all sushi lovers, whether omnivores, carnivores, vegetarians, those who ask 'gluten-free please', foodistas, hipsters, ecologists, and finally for all fans of revisited classics " are welcome.
The chain also offers bowls, doughnuts and cakes made from the basic ingredients of maki-burrito. In any case, everything is fresh, homemade, handmade, in front of you, with the option of modifying your order to suit your tastes. The products are also all sourced from responsible, environmentally conscious suppliers. A menu that can be enjoyed at lunchtime or in the evening (except during the Covid crisis, when the restaurant is currently only open for lunch), and that can be discovered in a different way at weekends, as the restaurant offers a gourmet brunch, delivered to your door.
A new menu that we were able to discover in detail, with a burrito, a bowl, avocado toast and pancakes. As far as the burrito is concerned, it's the reverse concept of the maki-burrito, i.e., the flavors lean towards Japanese cuisine, while its structure is similar to the classic burrito (unlike the maki-burrito which, although it has the shape of a burrito, is constructed like a maki with seaweed).
We were able to try the Tijuana 13, made with beef, rice, salad and red cabbage, among other ingredients. A burrito that's easy to transport and enjoy on the street, tasty as it should be, not too spicy and, surprisingly, not stuffy like a classic burrito might be. Of course, you won't eat two in a row, but this one doesn't weigh down your stomach once it's finished, leaving room for other delicacies on the menu.
As for the bowl, a vegetarian with falafel, we appreciate its freshness and the choice of ingredients, resulting in a harmonious whole on the plate and in the mouth. We also succumb to theavocado toast with its divine homemade guacamole and poached egg, very fresh and interesting with the arrival of fine weather, to indulge while paying attention to what's on the plate.
Finally, on the brunch side, the pancakes with dulce de leche and red fruits leave you breathless, for a sweet note that's just right, without weighing down your stomach. In short, a CA-NON address to discover without a moment's hesitation!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
